Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using GateShell (“the App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is owned and operated by Hefty Innovations(“we,” “us,” or “our”).

2. Description of Service

GateShell is an SSH client application for Apple platforms (iOS and macOS) that provides secure shell access, SFTP file transfer, port forwarding, and related functionality. The App runs entirely on your device and connects directly to your servers. We operate no backend infrastructure, relay servers, or cloud services (except optional iCloud sync provided by Apple).

3. Free Tier & Subscriptions

  • Free Tier. GateShell offers a free tier limited to one (1) server configuration and basic SSH functionality. Free tier features are subject to change.
  • GateShell Pro. Paid Pro subscriptions unlock additional features including unlimited servers, SFTP file browsing, port forwarding, command snippets, all terminal themes, proxy support, and environment variables. Pro is available as a monthly plan at $0.99/month (USD) or an annual plan at $9.99/year (USD). Prices may vary by region.
  • Billing.All payments are processed by Apple via the App Store. Payment will be charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions are governed by Apple's payment terms. You manage your subscription — including cancellation and refund requests — through your Apple Account settings. We do not process payments or issue refunds directly.
  • Auto-Renewal. Pro subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price of the selected plan. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal at any time in your Apple Account settings after purchase. Turning off auto-renewal stops the next billing cycle but does not refund the current period. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use GateShell to:

  • Access servers or systems you are not authorized to access.
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations in your jurisdiction.
  • Distribute malware, conduct denial-of-service attacks, or engage in other malicious activity.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App.

5. Intellectual Property

GateShell and all associated trademarks, copyrights, and intellectual property rights are owned by Hefty Innovations. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, subject to the App Store's usage rules. You do not acquire ownership of the App.

6. Third-Party Services

GateShell integrates with Apple services including iCloud (for sync), StoreKit (for payments), and LocalAuthentication (for biometric unlock). Use of these services is governed by Apple's respective terms and privacy policies. The App also uses open-source libraries (Citadel for SSH, SwiftTerm for terminal emulation) under their respective open-source licenses.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HEFTY INNOVATIONS DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. You are responsible for the security of your devices, credentials, and the servers you connect to.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, HEFTY INNOVATIONS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR SYSTEM FAILURE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above. Because GateShell has no backend and no user accounts, we cannot provide in-app notifications of changes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Hefty Innovations is registered, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.

11. Apple App Store & Licensed Application Terms

GateShell is a “Licensed Application” obtained through the Apple App Store. The following terms apply in addition to the rest of this agreement and, in the event of a conflict regarding your use of the App on Apple devices, prevail:

  • Agreement with us, not Apple. These Terms are concluded between you and Hefty Innovations only, and not with Apple. Hefty Innovations, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App and its content.
  • Scope of license. The license granted to you is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on any Apple- branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules set out in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
  • Maintenance and support. Hefty Innovations is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for the App. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the App.
  • Warranty. Hefty Innovations is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any) for the App; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.
  • Product claims. Hefty Innovations, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App or your possession and/or use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
  • Intellectual property.In the event of any third-party claim that the App or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, Hefty Innovations, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.
  • Legal compliance.You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Third-party beneficiary.Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
